EDMS - Engineering Document Management

Systems Engineering/Manufacturing company with over 500,000 drawings on paper (PDF) and CAD formats needed a database management and retrieval system to quickly identify and view engineering drawings and documents. With guidance from our customer HEG designed, developed and implemented the system while continuing to provide maintenance and updating.

MDM – Member Document Management System

Legal firm representing regional members (clients) of a large legal insurance group required additional software to run in collaboration with existing software to improve client communication, response times and legal resource allocation. HEG worked closely with our customer to create a system that shares and exchanges data dynamically with the parent corporation database. MDM replaces the screens and user interfaces of the legacy system to enhance client request tracking, to immediately provide legal assignment of intakes and to allow counsel quick access to client data. Instant reporting enables management to monitor response times, to evaluate performance and to develop statistical data on day to day operation.

eBrief - Legal Brief Electronic Collaboration and Assembly Software

HEG’s client, a large Nevada law firm, requested help in developing a software program that would create electronic briefs through a simple drag and drop procedure. The software would update the Table of Contents, Indexing and page numbering automatically with user verification. The program allows for the inserting of Word files, PDF documents and images. The software dramatically reduced, if not eliminated, multiple hours of expensive clerical and legal time in generating and updating a brief.

Legal Associate and Clerical Employee Evaluation Software

As every company needs to have a procedure in place to perform employee evaluations, HEG’s client wanted an electronic version tailored to their requirements. HEG developed an online system based on an existing hardcopy protocol that enable supervisors and peers to input employee evaluations at any time and location as well as alerts for meeting deadlines. The system generates reports to tally the evaluation results by individual evaluator and to enable employees to review their results with discretion. Software is designed to keep information confidential and to share evaluation results as determined by senior partners and HR directors.

Council of Governments Joint Purchasing Programs

Pennsylvania enables municipalities to join together and create a council of governments (COG’s) to function as a group purchasing body. Through large quantity purchases the COG is able to obtain significant discounts on commodities that would not be available to small and medium size municipalities. HEG developed a website that performs two key functions. First, each municipality is able to enter via online their material requirements for the year or quarters. Examples are road salt, vehicles, trucks, road repair materials, paints, signs, etc. The software automatically collects the information and generates a total summary along with each individual municipality’s data. Second, the software outputs a bid package based on all the municipalities requirements to allow vendors to review the requirements and submit a bid online. In addition to the quantity discount, municipalities can view their commodity purchasing history.

Nurse Navigator

Major hospital was in need of a software program to assist their new Nurse Navigator division for cancer patients. HEG work closely with the hospital management and staff to develop a software package based on the needs of the Nurse Navigator. The software provided the tools for the nurse to navigate and track the patient through the process of initial cancer diagnosis to treatment and future follow up. With the software tools the Navigator had instant access to the patient’s records, appointment schedules, documentation status, test results, physician contact information, educational materials as well as an electronic workflow of each step in the treatment process. Alerts were keyed in the system to notify the Navigator in advance the dates for next patient appointment, required records for future visits and follow up phone calls. A complete history of the patient treatment process was only a few keystrokes away.

Lung Screening

A local hospital was creating a Lung Screening program to identify patients that may have or develop lung disease within a fixed period of time. After a doctor visit, a patient with a specific type of medical history and personal health habits would be entered into the Lung Screening database based on permission from the patient. The Lung Screening software would quickly identify a patient that fit the program requirements for additional testing and possible treatment. The software program tracks the patient testing, behavior and personal habits allowing doctors and medical staff to follow the patient history and to determine appropriate treatment. The software provides the tools for multiple and separate doctors’ offices and clinics to enter data online and alert the hospital’s Lung Screening team of patients in need of the program.

Medical Device Installation and Service Tracking

A startup medical device company needed the ability to track the location, usage and service records of their high tech medical equipment. HEG developed a database program to register each medical device identification records, store specific location, remotely track usage, run device diagnostics online and maintain service records.

Insurance Commission Tracker

Insurance brokers are paid a fee by the medical insurance companies based on the number subscribed participants under the plan represented by the broker. The broker receives a monthly payment from the insurance company or health provider based on member (participants) and a set fee or percentage. The monthly payment can represent thousands of members and varies each month based on number of participants and the variable rate and/or percentage fee. Due to the fluctuating total dollar amounts with each monthly payments, brokers were unable to verify correct payment. Data entry errors or simple miscalculations by the insurance companies would result in significant loss of funds to the broker. Based on a review of multiple payment statements and several design reviews with the brokers, HEG created a software program that automatically imports and examines each monthly payment for accuracy and errors. Errors are immediately noted for the broker to contact the insurance company for correction. Missed payments are tracked and noted for later reconciliation. Brokers are able to track member participation and determine if an agent needs to contact a company based on member increase or decrease.

CURB – Collaboration among Utilities and Road Builders

Utility companies are frequently required to dig and repair streets for replacement and service of gas, water, electric and phone lines. Many of the utility services are planned as part of an upgrade or dedicated repair. In addition municipalities or road builders are planning and budgeting for road reconstruction and repairs. Without some type of collaboration, a newly paved road may be impacted by a gas line or other utility dig. By collaborating on future projects utility companies and municipalities are able reduce costs by joining together during a road reconstruction/utility upgrade. CURB was a simple tool to allow each entity to enter their projects into a database via a dedicated website. The projects were identified by location and estimated start dates. CURB quickly identified any possible collaboration opportunities and alerted appropriate personnel. Also, the members were able to quickly view future projects and in some cases change schedules and locations to allow collaboration and result in significant costs reductions.
